A Blessing for Your Journey
may you be blessed through our thoughts
and deeply blessed by the universe.
May you be blessed with tender savoring
for the friends and loved ones you leave behind
for the memories that bring a smile
for the stories that bring tears
for all that has been woven into the fabric of your life here.
May you be blessed with steadfast courage
for the travel you are about to undertake
for the adventure that lies ahead
for the hardships that are part of every journey
and the unexpected twists and turns of life.
May you be blessed with all good things
with new friends along the way
with safe passage from here to there
with unexpected smiles from strangers and
with offers of help when you need it most.
May you be blessed by wisdom
to see a friendly face in an unfamiliar one
to hear music in birdsong and wind
to recognize growth in struggle and travail
to embrace all that awaits you.

Sidste sommer

Keyboard of the Winds
Rundt havde vi Keyboard of the Winds, Pagoda Mountain, The Spearhead, McHenrys Peak, Arrowhead, Storm Peak, The Keyhole, The Trough og Longs Peak.

There are several trail routes that lead to Bear Peak: The following describes the Towhee-Shadow Canyon-Bear Peak route, and is highly recommended for its compelling scenery and lighter traffic.
At the last connection point to the Mesa Trail, the Shadow Canyon Trail begins a very strenuous 1.1 mile ascent up Shadow Canyon to the saddle between South Boulder Peak and Bear Peak. This trail segment runs through a boulder-laden dense pine forest. It’s worth noting that the trail can be difficult to follow here, especially if there’s snow on the ground. Occasional trail signs and boundary notifications posted on trees will help guide you.

Memorial Day
Memorial Day is not limited to honor only those Americans from the armed forces. It is also a day for personal remembrance. Families and individuals honor the memories of their loved ones who have died. Church services, visits to the cemetery, flowers on graves, or even silent tribute mark the day with dignity and solemnity. It is a day of reflection. However, to many Americans the day also signals the beginning of summer with a three-day weekend to spend at the beach, in the mountains, or at home relaxing.

Weather in Colorado’s high country can change quickly and dramatically. A balmy 70-degree day can turn stormy with hail and high winds in a matter of minutes. ... These storms, caused by rising warm air masses, are marked by heavy rain, hail, and lightning. [1]
Here in Colorado, lightning is the number one life threatening weather hazard. Between 1959 and 1994, lightning killed 394 people. Colorado ranks number 11 for lightning deaths in the United States. [2]

Hogback Ridge
Klippet fra ProTrails:
Views to the south and east are quite good as you gain altitude and near a saddle between two hogbacks. Rudimentary stairs are in place to aid with the exceptionally steep grade just beneath this saddle.
Boulders and pine trees dot the saddle, a pretty area that provides a brief reprieve and good views in all directions.
A short, final push leads to the top of the boulder-strewn hogback (1.4 mile mark, 6,390’). Caution should be taken when scrambling these boulders, as rattlesnakes are known to inhabit this type of terrain.
On top of the hogback for just a moment, the trail soon begins a moderately steep descent along its northern ridge to the grassy eastern slope. You’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Boulder foothills on this stretch.

CSA
A CSA, (for Community Supported Agriculture) is a way for the food buying public to create a relationship with a farm and to receive a weekly basket of produce. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become "members" (or "shareholders," or "subscribers") of the CSA. Most CSA farmers prefer that members pay for the season up-front, but some farmers will accept weekly or monthly payments. Some CSAs also require that members work a small number of hours on the farm during the growing season.
A CSA season typically runs from late spring through early fall. The number of CSAs in the United States was estimated at 50 in 1990, and has since grown to over 1000.
I dag var vi på gården for blandt andet at se deres to nye lam:Monday, February 26, 2007

Mother Blessing
There are many things that can be done for a Mother Blessing. It can be designed by the mother herself, or whomever chooses to host the "party." Here are some typical activities that you might include at a Mother Blessing:
- Belly Casting: This is a great way to celebrate her pregnancy. These are fairly simple to do and create a great keepsake of her pregnancy. Pamper mom while you do the cast for an added treat.
- Candle Lighting: Send each guest home with a small candle. When the mother goes into labor, a phone tree is started and all the candle holders are notified to light their candles and think good thoughts as the woman labors.

St. Valentine's Day
St. Valentine's Day has roots in several different legends that have found their way to us through the ages. One of the earliest popular symbols of the day is Cupid, the Roman god of Love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow.
Three hundred years after the death of Jesus Christ, the Roman emperors still demanded that everyone believe in the Roman gods. Valentine, a Christian priest, had been thrown in prison for his teachings. On February 14, Valentine was beheaded, not only because he was a Christian, but also because he had performed a miracle. He supposedly cured the jailer's daughter of her blindness. The night before he was executed, he wrote the jailer's daughter a farewell letter, signing it, "From Your Valentine." Another legend tells us that this same Valentine, well-loved by all, wrote notes from his jail cell to children and friends who missed him.
Another Valentine was an Italian bishop who lived at about the same time. He was imprisoned because he secretly married couples, contrary to the laws of the Roman emperor. Some legends say he was burned at the stake.
February 14 was also a Roman holiday, held in honor of a goddess. Young men randomly chose the name of a young girl to escort to the festivities. The custom of choosing a sweetheart on this date spread through Europe in the Middle Ages, and then to the early American colonies. Throughout the ages, people also believed that birds picked their mates on February 14!
Whatever the odd mixture of origins, St. Valentine's Day is now a day for sweethearts. It is the day that you show your friend or loved one that you care. You can send candy to someone you think is special. Or you can send roses, the flower of love. Most people send "valentines," a greeting card named after the notes that St. Valentine wrote from jail. Valentines can be sentimental, romantic, and heartfelt. They can be funny and friendly. If the sender is shy, valentines can be anonymous.

Black tea - what we commonly think of when someone mentions "tea" - is made from the dried leaves of Camellia sinensis, a white-flowering evergreen bush native to China and India.
The leaves used for green tea are the same as those that make black and oolong teas, but they are either steamed or pan-fired right after being picked.
Grown only in the remote mountains of China, white tea consists of just the first tender buds and top leaves of the tea bush that are gathered only in springtime.
Rooibos ("red bush" in Afrikaans) tea is made from the twigs and leaves of the rooibos bush that grows naturally in the dry, sandy soils of the Cedarburg Mountains of South Africa.
Chai is just black tea with a blend of herbs and spices. In India, often times families will have their own secret blend of herbs and spices for their family's chai. Spices commonly used in chai include cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg and black pepper. Sometimes the spices are mellowed with anise and vanilla.
Honeybush is a bright, yellow-flowered bush native to South Africa. The stems and flowers create a delicate honey-sweet herb tea with floral and fruity notes. It has been long enjoyed as a soothing herbal tonic and is a healthful source of minerals and antioxidants.
Herb tea is made from many different plants using not just leaves, but also flowers, roots, bark and seeds. Herb tea does not contain any part of the Camellia sinensis plant and is therefore naturally caffeine free.

Snow eater
Chinook winds, often just called chinooks, are a variety of Föhn winds pattern observed in the interior West of North America, where the Canadian Prairies and Great Plains end and the mountains begin. These wind patterns are named for the country of the Chinook Indians, which lies in the direction these winds were realized to originate from.
In popular myth, Chinook is supposed to mean "snow eater", as a strong Chinook can make a foot of snow all but vanish inside of one day. The snow partially melts, and partially evaporates in the dry wind. However, the true origin of the name is that "Chinook Wind" in the local argot of the fur trade era meant that the wind came from the direction of the country of the Chinooks (the lower Columbia River, i.e. from across the Rocky Mountains).
Chinook winds have been observed to elevate winter temperatures, often from below −20°C (−4°F) to as high as 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), for a few hours or days, at the end of which, the temperatures plummet to their base levels.
