Cool & Happy

Hvis vejrudsigten holder er der fredag afgang til årets første campingtur. Bogen Cool Camping England gav humøret et kraftigt løft da vi ankom til mørke og våde decemberoxford. Nu skal bogen i brug - nok sammen med The Happy Campers og guardian.co.uk, som om vores valg til weekenden skriver: My abiding memory of Tom's Field is not so much of the campsite itself but of the adjoining field - a large, undulating meadow that seems to transform all who enter it over the rickety stile: children are instantly joyful, parents link hands, bicycles go faster and Frisbees fly seemingly impossible distances. Follow the path through the field and there is Dancing Ledge and the sea. The campsite is the epitome of no frills: tents (no camper vans) set in two fields, surrounded by dry stone walls and with plenty of room for impromptu cricket matches. The shop is small but perfectly formed, the washing area basic. Eco-friendliness abounds, with can crushers, recycling bins, an emphasis on public transport and local produce and, new this year, the shop no longer stocks plastic bags. And all this in the middle of the Purbeck hills and just a few miles from Corfe Castle, Swanage, cream teas, fossil-strewn beaches and the whistle of the Swanage steam train. A back-to-basics seaside holiday, and all the better for it.

Opdatering 3. april: Vejrudsigten er ændret til regn lørdag og slud søndag, så der er omvalg af campingplads til en i kortere afstand. Det bliver enten Bracelands i Forest of Dean eller Doward Park.

Opdatering 6. april: Vi havde en fantastisk campingovernatning på bette Doward Park, som ligger tæt på et utal af gå- og klatreture.
